Rams RB Ronnie Rivers Impresses Amidst Poor Preseason

Second-year running back Ronnie Rivers gives the Los Angeles Rams another quality option in the backfield.

The Los Angeles Rams were embarrassed on Saturday by the Denver Broncos, 41-0. Fans can take solace in the game’s few bright spots as they wait for Week 1.

Running back Ronnie Rivers was one of Los Angeles’ best players on Saturday, running for 32 yards on six attempts. He safely projects as a member of their committee and is expected to earn passing down snaps alongside running back Kyren Williams.

Rivers totaled 22 carries and 105 yards through three preseason games. His performance earned him the attention of Pro Football Focus, who gave him the highest grade (78) on the offense.

Despite brutal offensive line play, Rivers impressed the Los Angeles brass. Most notably, he was only tackled behind the line of scrimmage once this preseason, on a play negated by a facemask penalty.

Rivers also broke off a 15-yard run but was praised more for his down-to-down consistency. His value as a blocker and special teamer has certainly helped his case for the 53-man roster.

“It would mean a whole lot to be able to make this team,” Rivers said. “So, we’ll just wait and see.”

Rivers signed with the Rams early last season after being released by the rival Arizona Cardinals. As things stand, he should be able to circle his calendar for a revenge game on Oct. 15.

Rivers’ preseason performances are the fruits of an equally impressive training camp. Expect to see him on the field for Week 1, when Los Angeles visits the Seattle Seahawks.
