Rams RB Cam Akers Reveals Goal: Bulk 'Way Up!'
When the Los Angeles Rams drafted running back Cam Akers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, he was listed at 217 pounds. As he enters his fourth NFL season, he remains the same weight on the team website.
During the offseason, however, one of Akers' goals was to work on his weight before camp while also ensuring he was in the right headspace.
"Just making sure my weight was where it needed to be. And obviously, mentally, making sure I was where I needed to be. But those were two of the biggest things," Akers said.
When asked to clarify whether he was trying to increase or decrease his weight, the Rams' running back made it very clear.
"Up. Up. Like, way up. Way up. Way up," Akers said.
Standing at 5-foot-10, Akers possesses a skill set that combines speed and agility. His remarkable strength enables him to overpower defenders during plays. While ensuring that the additional weight does not hamper his speed, it could potentially improve his capacity to break tackles and even reduce the likelihood of injuries.
Entering this season marks a pivotal point in Akers' career - the end of his rookie deal. With that in mind, he aims to capitalize on his success from the end of last season and the improvements he made during this offseason to secure a promising future with the franchise.
