Rams Kobie Turner Drops Geno Smith For First Career Sack
As the Los Angeles Rams were putting a bow on their season-opening 30-13 win against the Seattle Seahawks, their 2023 third-round draft pick made a play that helped seal the game.
Los Angeles rookie nose tackle Kobie Turner recorded his first sack in the NFL, bringing down Seattle quarterback Geno Smith for a loss of nine yards. Turner was credited with one-half of a sack with fellow third-round pick, linebacker Byron Young, but Turner was the one who cleaned up the play and dragged Smith to the ground.
One play later, All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald — who has nine more years of experience than Turner — followed up the rookie's sack with one of his own. Donald has 103 more career sacks than Turner now.
The second and third-down takedowns of Smith were the only two sacks the Rams had all day, but they forced Seattle into a fourth-and-34, punting away to deflate any chance the Seahawks had at a comeback attempt.
Turner had two tackles and a hit on Smith.
Turner made his way from the University of Richmond — where he was named a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association honoree — to Wake Forest in 2022. He played one season at the Power Five level and turned into a third-round draft pick.
Last year, Turner played 13 games for the Demon Deacons, recording 38 tackles but was a disrupter at the line of scrimmage. He had two sacks, 10 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and batting down two passes.
