Los Angeles Rams Coach Sean McVay Provides New Update on QB Matthew Stafford
As Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford deals with a UCL sprain in his thumb, his head coach is taking it one day at a time with his status for Sunday's game.
Sean McVay was made available to the media on Wednesday, and he discussed new updates on Stafford's health as well as what the team's plan on his injury is here in the middle of the week.
“Yeah, we're just taking it a day at a time," McVay said. "He's really trying to take care of all of those types of things. We'll continue to monitor it and he'll be day-to-day. Obviously, he won't participate today and we'll have contingency plans for both situations that could potentially arise.”
Even though Stafford did not participate in practice on Wednesday (and even if he doesn't practice at all this week), that won't impact his availability for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. If Sunday comes and he can play, he will play.
“It's one of those deals that you give him up until right before the game," McVay said. "You use all the time necessary for a player like him.”
Stafford's injury came last week in a road game against the Dallas Cowboys, and he did not play much of the second half after the injury worsened. So far this season, he has thrown for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions as his team currently holds a 3-5 record.
Kickoff on Sunday between the Rams and Packers is set for 10 a.m. PT, and the game will be televised on FOX.
