Georgia Experience Makes Stetson Bennett ‘Great Fit' With LA Rams

The Los Angeles Rams may have a surprising future option at QB in Georgia's Stetson Bennett.

The Los Angeles Rams' 2023 draft class is highlighted by OL Steve Avila, LB Byron Young and DL Kobie Turner, but NFL.com has a wildcard to keep an eye on this season: Stetson Bennett

"There are a lot of similarities between the Todd Monken system he was running in Athens and what he'll be asked to do with the Rams," Adam Rank writes. "And this is a pretty great fit for him."

Bennett has yet to even be named Stafford's backup, but the competition with veteran Brett Rypien is seemingly leaning the rookie's way. And, as Rank continues, the three-quarterback rule's reinstatement means Bennett is here to stay.

The former Georgia Bulldog tallied 8,429 passing yards in college, tossing 66 touchdowns and 21 interceptions while winning back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.

That said, his most recent championship victory came at the not-so-ripe age of 25. He's old. For a rookie, he's really, really old.

"All right, get all the jokes about Bennett and Stafford being former Georgia teammates out of the way now. Bennett might be 25, but he's not that old," Rank concludes.

A former walk-on, a third-stringer and JUCO product turned college star makes for a great story, but it also makes for an old newbie. Bennett's timeline to prove himself is far more limited than a 21-year-old like Bryce Young.

Bennett's tight window aligns with Rank's assessment. Bennett is a new player to watch for in 2023, because a dud of a year-one campaign could land Bennett on the cutting room floor.
