Rams Coach Sean McVay Reveals Injury Status of Tyler Higbee
The Los Angeles Rams suffered a devastating loss in the playoffs to the Detroit Lions last season, losing their top tight end Tyler Higbee to a torn ACL along the way.
And given the timing of such a serious injury, it was expected that Higbee would miss at least some time next season, as he continues to rehab.
Now, Rams head coach Sean McVay has clarified the situation surrounding his top tight end, telling reporters at the NFL Owners Meetings on Tuesday that Higbee is expected to be designated to the PUP list when training camp roles around this July.
Higbee would still be eligible to play on Week 1 with this designation, though given the nature and the timing of the injury, that is highly unlikely.
Per the Cleveland Clinic, ACL injuries typically take six to nine months to make a full recovery after surgery. Higbee's injury occurred on Jan. 14.
Fortunately for L.A., they now have plenty of depth at the tight end spot with second-year tight end Davis Allen, who is coming off a strong finish to the season. Allen finished his rookie year 10 catches for 95 yards and a score in the regular season and had two catches for 28 yards in the playoff loss to Detroit. Allen did not make his first catch until Nov. 26.
The Rams also signed former Seahawks tight end Colby Parkinson, who is heading into his fifth NFL season. Parkinson spent the last four years with Seattle, playing in 54 games with four starts, and making 57 catches on 78 targets for 618 yards and four scores.
