Tyler Higbee Shines for Los Angeles Rams After Contract Extension vs. Colts
The Los Angeles Rams are back in the win column with the 29-23 victory on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.
The win on the road came after a brief two-game losing streak followed up a promising season-opening win over the Seattle Seahawks, and a big part of the gameplan offensively for the Rams was the inclusion of tight end Tyler Higbee.
Through four games, Higbee has been a consistent outlet for Stafford in a Cooper Kupp-less offense totaling 16 receptions for 196 yards, not including the win versus Indianapolis, where he finished second on the team in targets with 11 and second in receptions (five) and yards (64).
The 30-year-old finished only behind standout rookie receiver Puka Nacua for yards and receptions, as the former fifth-round pick has continued to be the top option out wide for the Rams in Kupp's absence while Higbee has continued to be a safety net.
As the Rams' offense continues to be without their star receiver, who is still recovering from the hamstring injury that caused him to miss the majority of training camp, L.A. and quarterback Matthew Stafford has looked elsewhere for reliable targets.
Higbee, the former fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, entered Sunday's game in Lucas Oil Stadium fresh off signing a two-year contract extension worth $30 million, with $17 million guaranteed. The 30-year-old proved worth the extension as he helped the Rams to their overtime win versus the Colts.
Higbee and the Rams will be in action next on Sunday when they host the Philadelphia Eagles inside SoFi Stadium.
