Rams Have Most Unsigned Draft Picks in the NFL

The Los Angeles Rams have five 2023 NFL Draft picks that remain unsigned, the most in the league
In this story:

Almost two months have passed since the 2023 NFL Draft in late April, and most picks have already signed their rookie deals.

Emphasis on "most," as there are still a few rookies who remain unsigned after all this time. There are 31 draft picks still waiting on their deals, and the Los Angeles Rams have five of those players, the most of any team. No other team even has four unsigned draft picks, and only two teams, the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts, have three.

Perhaps coincidentally, all five of those draft picks come from the third and sixth rounds. For the third-round picks, there's outside linebacker Byron Young (No. 77 pick) and defensive lineman Kobie Turner (No. 89). Then for the sixth-round picks, there's cornerback Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (No. 182), outside linebacker Ochaun Mathis (No. 189) and running back Zach Evans (No. 215).

Across the NFL, 24 of the 31 unsigned rookies were selected in the first or second rounds. That means that the Rams have five of the seven unsigned rookies from outside the first two rounds. The only non-Rams in this group are Colts offensive tackle Blake Freehand and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo.

The Rams currently have just over $13 million in available cap space, so in theory, they have enough to sign all of their remaining picks. All five players have projected cap hits of under $1 million, save for Young at just over that amount. There could be another reason for the holdup, but cap space doesn't seem to be the problem, at least on the surface.

With a young roster across the board, L.A. will be counting on some of these players to make key contributions. For that reason, it would be ideal for the Rams to get them signed sooner rather than later.
