Rams Select Wingate punter Ethan Evans With No. 223 Pick
With the 2023 NFL Draft winding down, teams are getting a bit more free with their picks. That includes the Los Angeles Rams, who selected Division II punter Ethan Evans from Wingate at No. 223 overall in the seventh round.
Evans is the third punter off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft. The New England Patriots selected Michigan State's Bryce Baringer at No. 192, then the Cincinnati Bengals selected Michigan's Brad Roberts at No. 217, the final pick of the sixth round. Evans is also the first Division II player taken in this year's draft.
Evans spent four years at Wingate. In that time, he averaged at least 40 yards per attempt with a long of 72 yards in 2021.
Evans also handled kickoff duties for the Bulldogs in all four seasons. He also kicked field goals as a senior in 2022, making 10 of 18 attempts with a long of 41 yards.
The 6-4, 235-pound senior is the first punter the Rams have drafted since 2005, when they were still in St. Louis. That year, they drafted Ball State's Reggie Hodges, who played eight seasons with five teams, in the sixth round.
The Rams are on the clock again with the No. 234 pick in the seventh round.
