Matthew Stafford To Play for Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks? 'That's The Hope' Says Sean McVay

The Los Angeles Rams desperately need their quarterback Matthew Stafford to return as soon as possible.
In this story:

The Los Angeles Rams suffered an embarrassing 20-3 loss to a 2-5 Green Bay Packers team on Sunday, due in large part to a fledgling offensive performance led by backup quarterback Brett Rypien.

Rypien was inserted into the lineup as the starter after Matthew Stafford was forced to miss the matchup with a thumb injury that he suffered vs. the Dallas Cowboys a week prior.

Luckily for the Rams, the bye week has come at an opportune time, giving Stafford an extra week of recovery.

And with that in mind, Rams coach Sean McVay has hope that Stafford will be able to return in time for their Nov. 19 NFC West matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

“I hope so. That’s the hope. I know this... This guy is as tough as it gets,” McVay said. “He going to play through stuff that not a lot of people will do and we’ve seen that illustrated already this year... I’m hopeful. I don’t know enough about exactly where we’re at with recovery, the ability to grip the ball. I’m optimistic. I’ll leave that door open.”

The Rams monitored Stafford closely throughout the week ahead of their tilt with the Packers, hoping he would be available.

But, after Sunday morning came and Stafford had not made enough progress, Rypien ultimately got the start.

Now sitting at 3-5 and their playoff hopes on the line, however, Stafford coming back in time for the Seahawks matchup will be critical.

“It wasn’t anywhere to where we thought he’d be able to go for us,” McVay said. “There was a chance. We had kind of just left the door open. We know how tough he is. Whenever we get him back, we’ll certainly be excited about that. Hopefully, it’s when we come back and play Seattle but I can’t give you any updates as it relates to exactly where he’s at.”
