Rams Sign QB Stetson Bennett to Rookie Deal
The Los Angeles Rams selected Heisman Trophy- and national championship-winning quarterback Stetson Bennett with the No. 128 pick in the NFL Draft this spring.
And now, he is officially a candidate to be the franchise’s quarterback of the future, with Bennett and the Rams agreeing to terms on his rookie deal on Thursday, the team announced.
Bennett, who led the Bulldogs to back-to-back SEC and national titles - the second of which came at SoFi Stadium - will now come into Los Angeles as the hopeful quarterback of the future and primary backup behind his fellow Bulldog alum, Matthew Stafford.
The 35-year-old Stafford, of course, is coming off of a season-ending spinal contusion injury, which led the Rams to scramble for help at the backup quarterback spot.
The Rams eventually settled on Baker Mayfield, who fared well in the system. Bennett arguably has a similar skillset and strengths that compare to those of Mayfield and it is hoped should be able to fit into the system without a hitch.
In his career at Georgia, Bennett finished completing 65 percent of his passes for 8,429 yards and 66 touchdowns with 21 interceptions over 41 appearances.
