Los Angeles Rams Coach Sean McVay Praises 'Unbelievable Effort' by Defense vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams came away with a clutch win vs. Seattle on Sunday, and a large credit for that goes to their defense.

The Los Angeles Rams badly needed a win on Sunday, and they grabbed one thanks to some strong defense and timely offensive production.

Rams head coach Sean McVay praised his defense's effort following the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and he made sure to give some credit to an offense that eventually found a groove late in the game as well.

“Unbelievable effort by our defense today," McVay said. "They kept us in the game and I thought it was key and critical for the offense to be able to get into a rhythm when they had to. Would've loved to have been able to punch that last in instead of having to kick the field goal where you're forcing them to have to go get a touchdown at the end there. But man, I'm just so proud of this group."

Sunday seemed to be trending towards another disappointing showing by the Rams who had started the season with a 3-6 record, but McVay summed up the comeback effort with one word: grit.

"I think the grit was on display, the mental toughness, the ability to get stops, the ability to be able to feed off of one another," McVay said. "Man, there's a lot of things that we can learn from offensively. I think there are a lot of good things that we can build on defensively, but the way that they finish, to me was key and critical and that was one of the things that I didn't think we did as good a job of in the first half of the season."

The Rams certainly did not do a great job of finishing games early in the season, but perhaps they are finding positive momentum at the right time. It helps to get healthy too, as franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford returned to action against Seattle, putting up 190 passing yards and a score in the 17-16 win.

There is still a long way to go for the Rams, now 4-6, but the longest of journeys begins with just a single step. Perhaps Sunday was a step in the right direction for L.A., and that's certainly the hope within that building.

"Really happy for our group and happy for those players, and the coaches did a great job," McVay said.

The Rams will remain in division play next week when they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals, a team they defeated 26-9 earlier in the season. The Cardinals are coming off a narrow loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, and kickoff in this game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT. The game will be televised on FOX.
