'Truly Unmatched!' Sean McVay, Les Snead Praise Falcons' Hire of 'Special' Raheem Morris
The Atlanta Falcons have found their head coach and the Los Angeles Rams are now without a defensive coordinator.
Raheem Morris was named the new head coach of the Falcons on Thursday, and while this is a blow to the Rams' coaching staff, head coach Sean McVay is proud of his cohort and friend for getting another chance as the head man of an NFL franchise, calling him "unmatched" in a statement this week.
"Raheem has a charisma, presence and ability to communicate and connect with players and coaches that's truly unmatched," McVay said in the statement. "He epitomizes great leadership through the ways he elevates everyone around him and makes every environment he's a part of better. Atlanta hired an incredibly special coach, but an even more exceptional person who will lead the right way."
Rams general manager Les Snead also released a statement on the hiring of Morris, praising the impact that he left on the Rams franchise during his three seasons with the team.
"The Atlanta Falcons, an organization and owner that mean a lot to me personally, are fortunate to have hired Raheem Morris to lead their football team," Snead said. "He is one of few exceptional leaders that has coached both sides of the ball with some of the game's most respected minds at the professional and collegiate levels. An integral part of our Super Bowl Championship, Raheem has been successful everywhere he's been, including his first stint as a head coach. He leaves an indelible mark on everyone he works with and has a rare ability to unify and inspire a collective group to accomplish their mission."
"Most importantly, he is a respected leader who treats everyone the same, and is a model husband, father, and friend."
A Look Back on Defensive Coordinator Raheem Morris' Time With The Rams
Morris had been on staff with the Rams as the team's defensive coordinator since 2021, playing an integral role in L.A.'s Super Bowl run that season.
Morris served on staff for the Falcons from 2015-20, ending his time in Atlanta as the team's interim head coach prior to the hiring of Arthur Smith to that role. His only other full-time head coaching gig in the NFL came from 2009-11 when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
