Tragedy struck the Baltimore area early Tuesday morning as the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed after being struck by a large container ship that lost power. The collapse sent vehicles and people tumbling into the Patapsco River.

Not long after the Baltimore Ravens issued a statement from the organization regarding the tragedy, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson took to social media to say his "thoughts and prayers" are with those who are impacted by the situation.

"For the people and their families that was apart of the collapsing Bridge in Baltimore my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you all," Jackson stated.

Per CNN, the ships crew issued a mayday after losing power to the ship before the collision with the bridge. Maryland Governer Wes Moore said that accelerated the response time for emergency personnel.

"We're thankful that between the mayday and the collapse, that we had officials who were able to begin to stop the flow of traffic so more cars were not on the bridge," Moore told reporters.

"We're talking about a deep channel port," he said. "It's 40, 50 feet of water, strong currents. The weather is windy, the water is cold. And so we certainly worry about those who are in the water, not to mention the fall from the bridge."
