NFL Mock: Baltimore Ravens Address Offensive Line Frailties With Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton
The Baltimore Ravens were perhaps one of the teams that were hit hard by NFL free agency, with several stars moving on to other teams. Perhaps the most glaring thing that happened to the Ravens was on offense, with three starting linemen walking out the door.
Tackle Morgan Moses and guards John Simpson and Kevin Zeitler all found new NFL homes, which leaves Todd Monken's offensive line in serious need of fortifying.
Baltimore brought in guard/tackle Josh Jones from the Houston Texans, which then leaves the Ravens potentially putting faith in their backups Patrick Mekari, Daniel Faalele, and Ben Cleveland to protect Lamar Jackson.
But if there ever was an offseason when the offensive line was your team's biggest need, it is this upcoming draft. The talent is perhaps the best it has ever been, and in NFL.com's latest mock draft, the Ravens get tackle help in the form of Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton.
"Every year, the draft just seems to fall into place for Baltimore, which needs help at tackle," NFL.com wrote. "Guyton would allow the Ravens to not have to lean on Patrick Mekari or Daniel Faalele too much and possibly give them their right tackle for the next several seasons."
Under Monken, Baltimore transitioned to a more pass-oriented offense with Lamar Jackson despite being the best running team in the NFL yet again last season. The offense was again a top-five unit, something that has become a regular occurrence.
With Jackson attempting the most passes in his NFL career last season, getting him protection is paramount. Guyton, at right tackle last season for the Sooners, didn't allow a single sack and only three quarterback hurries. That is something which will appeal to the Ravens as they look to fortify their offensive line.
Guyton is a better pass protector than run blocker, so should Baltimore select him in the first round, we imagine that improving that area of his game will be high on the wish list in training camp.
Baltimore came so close last season to reaching the Super Bowl, and with the offensive line ravaged in free agency, getting Jackson the protection he needs will go a long way to the franchise making it back to the AFC Championship game.
