Baltimore Ravens Draft: Should Team Select USC Ball Hawk Calen Bullock?
Last year, the Baltimore Ravens were a juggernaut on both offense and defense, but this offseason, the team lost a lot of veterans in free agency.
One position that Baltimore must attempt to replace in the NFL Draft is safety. USC Trojans defensive back Calen Bullock is a prospect with the potential to fill the hole in the secondary left by Geno Stone.
In three seasons playing as a Trojan, Bullock showed the ability to be a ballhawk by picking off nine passes (two for touchdowns) and All-Pac-12 honors in both his sophomore and junior seasons.
Standing 6-2 and running a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, Bullock’s athleticism exceeds that of Stone, who ran a 4.62-second 40 at his NFL Combine back in 2020 before Baltimore ultimately drafted him in the seventh round.
Unlike Stone, Bullock isn’t expected to be available that late in this year’s draft. If the Ravens want to get ahold of the playmaker, the team will likely need to commit to drafting him sometime around the third round with the team’s No. 93 pick.
Some have speculated that due to Bullocks' big play skills and versatility as a do-it-all defensive back, the safety could garner looks as a cornerback prospect rather than a play-making safety who struggles as a run defender.
Baltimore could look wise in the long run if the team has a versatile defender like Bullock on its roster to develop as an insurance policy should someone like star cornerback Marlon Humphrey have to miss time again next season.
