Ravens Rookie Tavius Robinson Embracing Offseason Workouts, OTAs

Baltimore Ravens fourth-round draftee Tavius Robinson is poised to become an impact player within the team’s defensive front seven.

The Baltimore Ravens raised more than a few eyebrows when they selected Ole Miss linebacker Tavius Robinson in the fourth-round (No. 124 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

While Baltimore was expected to use draft capital in help in to mitigate the loss of linebackers Justin Houston, Calais Campbell and Jason Pierre-Paul, who combined for 18 of the team’s 48 sacks in 2022, Robinson was widely considered to be risky selection. Initially projected to be chosen at or after pick No. 200, some draft analysts were wondering whether the Ravens had reached for Robinson’s services.

However, the Canadian-born edge rusher is eager to prove his doubters wrong. He has been present for Baltimore’s offseason training program and hard-at-work to earn a role on the team’s 53-man roster.

“Just been getting into the playbook, you know, learning the scheme, learning the techniques they teach here," said Robinson, who recently joined CBC Kitchener-Waterloo for an interview.

"It's been good to be here and kind of get with the veterans now and learn from them, learn from our coaches and really just kind of get the playbook down and then yeah, just playing football."

The 6-6, 265-pound defender has the size and athleticism to become a key part of the Ravens front seven. Though he is at his best when coming off the edge, Robinson has the versatility to kick inside.

However, Robinson will likely need to adjust his style to fit Baltimore’s base 3-4 defense. Despite his best logistical for coming as a 4-3 pass rusher, linebackers coach Chuck Smith can fully utilize his frame and athleticism.

Theoretically, Robinson could be an impact pass rusher for Baltimore in short order. However, he must continue to fully embrace the coaching and workout regimen he is receiving in Baltimore to become a productive member of the Ravens front seven as a rookie.
