Baltimore Ravens, NFL Teams Still 'Undecided' on Draft Targets?
The NFL Draft is a golden opportunity for fans to separate the great general managers in football from the mediocre. Executives who can consistently find great talent have kept their teams competitive during the salary cap era because they know the type of player that excels at the PPro level.
Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta can certainly be considered as one of those "great" ones.
That doesn't mean, with just over a week to go before the start of the draft, DeCosta knows who he is going to select with the 30th overall pick. Dianna Russini of the Athletic made it clear that no general manager, regardless of how good they are, knows exactly what their team is going to do right now.
"Just had an insightful draft conversation with a GM who strongly reminded me about 20 times that most teams are still undecided and NO TEAM is leaking to anyone who they are picking," Russini tweeted out during the week. "Most organizations aren’t even settled on who they are taking."
There's good reason for that, of course.
In what is considered one of the deepest draft classes of all-time, the 2024 group has elite players at offensive line, wide receiver, quarterback, and even corner. If a team like the Ravens had needs at those positions, it would make sense for them to stay quiet in the days leading up to the draft as to not tip their hands.
At the very least, DeCosta knows that if the organization is to remain competitive in 2024, the Ravens must have a stellar draft. Not tipping his picks is also something that will be extremely important.
