Ravens' RB Gus Edwards Ready to 'Prove People Wrong'

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards is ready to put his injury issues behind him and put forth a superb season of work to prove to those who doubt him that he's got juice left in the tank.
In this story:

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards is over a year removed from his ACL injury and made his comeback in Week 7 last season. Naturally, it was going to be a slow burn for the running back, but now, he's ready to roll.

As the Ravens gear up for their first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Edwards is feeling healthy and ready to dish out a hot serving of humble pie.

"I have a lot of experience under my belt, and saying Year 6, it seems like, 'Wow, this time's flashing,'" Edwards said. "But I'm ready to have my best year. I'm ready to put it all together. I feel like I'm in a great position to do that, and I have a chip on my shoulder. I just want to prove a lot of people wrong."

Coming back from an ACL injury is tough enough physically, but the mental hurdles one has to overcome can be just as challenging.

In his nine games, Edwards rushed for 433 yards while averaging 5.0 yards a carry, but of course, there were times where things didn't quite feel right.

With Edwards not looking like the brutal runner he once was - in part to his knee but also being struck by a minor hamstring injury in Week 8 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - the confidence wasn't there and people naturally thought he wasn't the same player.

But in Todd Monken's offense, Edwards now has the confidence needed to become the player he knows he can be.

While Edwards isn't expected to take part in the Ravens' first preseason game, we get the sense he is chomping at the bit to show not only himself but the wider football world that he can be the consistent beacon of production he has been since entering the league.

Of course, talk is well and good, but Edwards has to prove it on the field. And there is little doubt that he'll do just that.
