Ravens Rashod Bateman on Offensive Success: 'Everybody's Unselfish!'
The Baltimore Ravens offense clicked into gear in their Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. While still not firing on all cylinders, the Ravens put up 27 points in what was a far better display.
Offensive coordinator Todd Monken stated that the "operation" of the offense was far better against the Bengals, and receiver Rashod Bateman thinks that the unit is performing well because no one cares about who gets to make plays.
“I think everybody is working together really well because everybody’s unselfish," Bateman said. "I think you definitely need that to win. Todd Monken is doing a good job of spreading the ball around. Every guy had a catch last week, I’m pretty sure.”
Against the Bengals, Lamar Jackson spread the ball around as six players had three receptions or more as the true value of the Ravens' offensive weaponry was on show.
With such an embarrassment of riches on offense, it is easy to see why many have the Ravens winning the AFC North and going on a Super Bowl run.
While it might only be two games into the season, Bateman has seen improvement in the offense from week to week.
“It was a big step up in improvement [against the Bengals],” Bateman said. “But I think we’re definitely looking to improve more, but I think we left a lot on the field, like we always do, but hopefully we can get those things sorted out and maybe put up some more points.”
Switching from the run-heavy offense of Greg Roman to the vertical style with Monken would take some time.
It has been two weeks, and we have seen a gradual improvement, which, at this stage of the season, is all we can ask for.
With Jackson getting more comfortable in Monken's scheme and letting every player get a lick of the ice cream, the Ravens offense will cause serious problems for opposing teams this season.
It is only early, but the signs of the Ravens having an explosive offense are pointing in a positive direction.
