Ex Jaguars DE/LB Dawuane Smoot To Visit Ravens

Reports of a Baltimore Ravens possible addition on the defensive side of the ball may add to the excitement and anticipation of a newly revamped offense.

The Baltimore Ravens are hoping to begin the 2023 season with one of the best rosters they've had in recent memory. That includes the recently re-signed franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson and his new platoon of receivers, Nelson Agholor, Odell Beckham Jr. and fresh draftee Zay Flowers. Add back J.K. Dobbins to that mix and there is certainly reason for excitement in Charm City.

And now reports of a possible addition on the defensive side of the ball may add to that excitement. The Ravens are scheduled to host veteran defensive end/linebacker Dawuane Smoot for a visit early next week per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport says in his social media report that "Smoot tore his Achilles late last season, but is doing well in his rehab and prepping to get back on the field. Baltimore is a strong option."

Smoot, who turned 28 in March, has registered at least five sacks in each of the last four seasons with the Jaguars, and most likely would've been a top free agent target in the offseason had it not been for his injury in Week 16.

Last season alone, Smoot had five sacks, 21 tackles, 14 solo and one forced fumble in 15 games for Jacksonville. He also posted 12 quarterback hits and one forced fumble, which is something that the Ravens hope he could continue should they come to an agreement for 2023.

Baltimore is looking for help at DE since last year's sack leader Justin Houston (9.5 sacks) remains unsigned.
