Ravens To Visit With Jaxon Smith-Njigba After Signing Odell Beckham Jr.
The Baltimore Ravens splashed the cash in the free agent market on Sunday evening, announcing the signing of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., their first major deal of the offseason and the second playmaker they've added so far, along with Nelson Agholor.
So are they done?
Maybe not according to a recent report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The Ravens are still contemplating their options at wideout for this month's NFL Draft.
Among those options is Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is set to visit the Ravens, Rapoport reported.
"[Ohio State] WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, a consensus first-rounder, has already had a top-30 visit with the Falcons, source said," Rapoport wrote. "Among the many he's scheduled to visit are the Ravens, Texans, Bills, and Cowboys."
The former Ohio State Buckeyes pass catcher was shaping up to be potentially a top-five pick just last year.
He posted an incredible sophomore season which ended with him posting a Rose Bowl-recording-breaking performance, totaling 347 yards and three touchdowns on 15 receptions en route to a 48-45 win over Utah.
But an injury sidelined him this past fall, limiting Smith-Njigba to just four games, making his projection within the first round difficult.
He'd give quarterback Lamar Jackson another potential weapon to work with if he is available when the Ravens are on the clock at No. 22. Smith-Njigba likely projects as a slot receiver who can specialize in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
Smith-Njigba, Beckham, and Agholor would be a nice new set of playmakers for offensive coordinator Todd Monken to work with as he tries to turn around a Ravens passing game that has struggled in recent years.
