'Chase Perfection!' Ravens Harbaugh Preaches Growth After Colts Loss
The Baltimore Ravens suffered their first loss of the season, losing 22-19 in overtime to the Indianapolis Colts. With Baltimore still trying to come to grips with Todd Monken's new offensive scheme, naturally there will be ups and downs throughout the year.
Sunday was a down moment as the Ravens had plenty of opportunities to win the game but couldn't get over the line.
For head coach John Harbaugh, despite the loss, he remains upbeat about the direction the team is going.
“Continuing to chase perfection, continuing to build on what we’re doing and get better, that’s really what it is,” Harbaugh said. “It’s a process, it’s week to week and you got to keep building on the next week because you keep moving forward. We’ll get better, we’ll improve, clean stuff up, we’ll figure out our identity as we go."
While the Ravens look to get their brand of football in place, winning games while you do it is what every team strives for.
Sitting at 2-1 is not the end of the world by any means and given that the loss was in overtime, alarm bells aren't exactly ringing in Baltimore.
Harbaugh echoed this thought and stated that the NFL champions aren't crowned in Week 3.
“You want to win these early games obviously because that’s stacking wins,” Harbaugh said. “That’s what we’ll continue to try to do. It’s a long season for a reason, it’s the National Football League and the one true champion will be the team that is one that proves to be the best team over the course of the season. You don’t crown the champion in week three.”
It is clear that Baltimore is still trying to figure out who they are as a team this season, and while they do it, being able to stack the wins as Harbaugh states is crucial.
You can't win the Super Bowl in Week 3, but you can sure lose it and for the Ravens, showing continual growth from week to week while grabbing wins where they can is all Harbaugh wants from his team.
