Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Rising in NFL MVP Odds?
First, it was Jalen Hurts, and then it was Dak Prescott. Now, it's Brock Purdy.
The MVP race has heated up over the next few weeks with plenty of shake-ups regarding some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
With just three games remaining in the NFL season though, there's one name that is shooting up the odds board when it comes to the most prestigious award, and he possesses the top record in the league's toughest conference.
His name? Lamar Jackson.
Jackson has been excellent this season and is a key reason why the Baltimore Ravens are tied for the best record in football. With a game in hand for the top seed in the AFC, Baltimore's franchise quarterback has increased his MVP odds in recent weeks.
Let's look at the leaderboard now:
Updated MVP Odds (Curtest of DraftKings)
Brock Purdy -200
Lamar Jackson +400
Dak Prescott +600
Christian McCaffrey +1,000
Jalen Hurts +1,500
In 14 starts this season for the Ravens, Jackson has thrown for 3,105 yards, 17 touchdowns, and just seven picks. His 66.4 completion percentage is the highest of his career. The former league MVP has also added 741 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.
The 3,800 combined yards are seventh in football for the former first-round pick.
Lamar Jackson Breaks QB Rushing Record
Arguably the most impressive stat for Jackson this year outside of leading his team in rushing is that the Ravens are on pace to not have a single 1,000-yard receiver or rusher and are still the best team in the toughest conference.
Jackson could further enhance his candidacy in the final three weeks of the NFL season with contests against the NFC-leading San Francisco 49ers, the second-ranked team in the AFC (Miami Dolphins), and their arch-rivals (Pittsburgh Steelers). Should Baltimore win all of their upcoming games, and their quarterback plays well, it could be the final shift in MVP voting needed to secure his second league MVP trophy in six years.
