'I Almost Broke My TV': Lamar Jackson Shares Frustration Watching Ravens' Playoff Loss
On Jan. 15, the Baltimore Ravens traveled to face the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. The game came down to the wire, but the Bengals prevailed 24-17 in a nail-biter.
For Ravens fans, this loss was a tough pill to swallow. Despite missing star quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore gained 130 more total yards than Cincinnati and were on the verge of taking the lead in the fourth quarter. However, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley fumbled while attempting to jump into the end zone, and Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard took the ball 98-yards for the go-ahead score.
This one play was a painful experience for those rooting for Baltimore, including Jackson himself. In a recent interview published on the Ravens' website, Jackson said he nearly broke his TV after the Bengals took the lead.
"We're about to score, then I just hear (the Bengals' crowd)," Jackson said. "I'm like, 'What?' I rush back to the TV and I'm seeing them score. I almost broke my TV. … I thought, I've got to pay for that. So there's no point.
Jackson missed the Ravens' last six games, including this one, with a knee injury suffered on Dec. 4. The 2019 MVP said not being able to play made him "sick" and that he wants to cut down on the injuries going forward.
"That's not part of my game," Jackson said. "I don't get hurt. That can't happen again. I don't feel right when I can't play football."
For a while, the 2022 season looked like it could've been Jackson's last as a Raven. The two sides were in a lengthy contract dispute, and Jackson even requested a trade request in late March.
However, Jackson agreed to a five-year extension to make him the NFL's highest-paid player on April 27. Now he gets to continue playing with the Ravens and hopefully help them put this loss behind them.
