OBJ a 'Joy to Play With!' Says Ravens Mark Andrews
Odell Beckham Jr. is already making a strong impression on his teammates. Chief among them is Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. The sixth-year tight end noted OBJ's impact on and off the field with the Ravens.
"He's been a joy to play with," Andrews said of OBJ. "Inside the lines, he's extremely competitive and he's really good at what he does, but he's also an incredible teammate. He's a great guy to have in the locker room and he's been nothing but the best and what you expect from a guy like that. I'm very thankful to have him on this team."
The Ravens signed OBJ to a one-year $15 million deal this offseason. The deal has incentives that can boost it to $18 million.
The 30-year-old is entering his ninth season in the NFL after not playing last season, as he was recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in the 2021 Super Bowl. Beckham Jr. had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Los Angeles Rams before suffering the injury.
OBJ burst onto the scene in 2014 with three straight seasons with at least 90 catches, 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns for the New York Giants. Since 2017, injuries and inconsistent quarterback play have hampered him from getting back to that level, as he's only had two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards.
Beckham had 35 receiving touchdowns in his first three years and only has 21 in his last five.
Even if OBJ's best days are behind him, he can still be an impactful player for a Baltimore offense that needed to get more weapons for quarterback Lamar Jackson. If OBJ and Jackson can stay healthy, and Andrews continues to be one of the best tight ends in football, Baltimore's passing attack could be the best it has been in recent years.
