Where Does Ravens' Marlon Humphrey Rank Among NFL CBs?

With three Pro Bowl appearances in the last four years, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has cemented himself as one of the best in the league.
In this story:

When the Baltimore Ravens drafted cornerback Marlon Humphrey in 2017, they envisioned him eventually becoming one of the top players at the position.

Six years later, that vision has become a reality. Humphrey has emerged as a certified star in the Ravens' secondary, earning three Pro Bowl selections in the last four years plus an All-Pro nod in 2019. He hasn't just been great in coverage, but also a sure tackler who can force plenty of fumbles.

There's little debate that Humphrey is one of the top corners in the game, the only question is how high he ranks. In a recent top 10 ranking by NFL.com, Humphrey came in as the No. 8 cornerback in the league ahead of the 2023 season.

"The three-time Pro Bowler is a complete corner who is the only defensive back with at least 10 forced fumbles and five picks since 2020, per NFL Research," NFL.com writes. "He impressively led the league with eight forced fumbles in the 2020 season. He's an excellent tackler and blitzer with the capability to match up with many No. 1 receivers. In a division that features the likes of Ja'Marr Chase and Amari Cooper, the Ravens will look to Humphrey to handle business again this fall."

Humphrey isn't just one of the league's top corners, but he's paid like it too. The Alabama product is under contract with the Ravens through 2026 with an average annual value of $19.5 million, the fourth-highest among corners. The Ravens are certainly getting a bang for their buck, and they don't have to worry about their star defender leaving any time soon.

New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner, the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, claimed the coveted top spot on the rankings. Denver Broncos corner Patrick Surtain II came in at No. 2, with New Orleans Saints star Marshon Lattimore at No. 3.

The Ravens have high aspirations this season, but the secondary has been a point of concern for some. If they are to reach those aspirations, Humphrey's steady play in the defensive backfield is an absolute must.
