Baltimore Ravens Move Melvin Gordon, Kenyan Drake to Roster for Week 3
The Baltimore Ravens are trying to manage their way through injury issues at the running back position, and while there is no ideal way to make up for the absence of J.K. Dobbins - who is out for the year with a torn Achilles - the next man up mentality is leading to a weekend roster move.
The Ravens will activate veteran running backs Melvin Gordon and Kenyan Drake from the practice squad for the Sunday game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Additionally, as another running back, Justice Hill, is dealing with turf toe, the Ravens added another "name'' back and another familiar face at the position by signing Kenyan Drake to the practice squad.
Gordon has credentials ... but he has not played in an NFL regular season game since November 21, 2022. In his career, Gordon has rushed for 6,462 yards and 55 touchdowns in 108 regular-season games but has recently bounced around, having been released by the Broncos, then spending a brief time with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad without having appeared in a game. In July, he was here with Baltimore as a free agent as of July before he was cut at the end of training camp ... and then re-signed Gordon to the practice squad in late August.
Sunday's Week 3 pits the undefeated Ravens team against a club with what would seem to be an even more unsolvable injury issue as rookie QB Anthony Richardson is out with a concussion, leaving Gardner Minshew as the starting quarterback for the rebuilding Colts.
