No. 1 AFC Seed is 'Where You Want to Be,' Says Ravens Coach John Harbaugh
The Baltimore Ravens moved past the Kansas City Chiefs and into the No. 1 seed in the AFC after the Philadelphia Eagles rolled into Arrowhead Stadium and pulled out a 21-17 win.
Being top of the conference is good, and while Lamar Jackson stated earlier that it means nothing to him, his coach, John Harbaugh, says that it is where his team wants to be.
“It's good, it's where you want to be at this point, but it doesn't mean anything until the last after the last game in terms of playoff seeding,” Harbaugh said. “So you know you get the lead, keep the lead I guess it means something in that sense, so we control a certain amount of our destiny.
"I don't know what the tiebreakers would say, but to some degree, we do I guess. But really we just got to keep winning, we got to take it one game at a time, be one and 0 this week, and that's really all our guys are talking about now it's all they're thinking about.”
As the saying goes, it's hard to get to the top but even harder to stay there, and that is the challenge facing Baltimore now.
The Ravens' task is a little bit trickier as tight end Mark Andrews will miss a significant chunk of the season (not officially ruled out for the year) as he had surgery on his injured ankle.
Harbaugh says the surgery went well but stopped short of saying that his All-Pro tight end would be back this year.
“It was all positive, I gave it my thumbs up afterward after it was explained to me what the heck was going on," Harbaugh said. "Dr. Anderson told our doctors and our trainers that everything went really well, and we'll just see where it goes from here.”
The Ravens face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12 before their bye, and after, that's where things get tough.
Baltimore faces the Jaguars, 49ers, Dolphins and closes their season against the Steelers.
The No. 1 seed means nothing now, but with each passing week, the importance placed on that coveted spot will grow exponentially.
