Ravens 'Ecstatic' With OBJ Instead of DeAndre Hopkins?
The Baltimore Ravens lost out on the DeAndre Hopkins lottery with the Tennessee Titans signing the wideout to a $15 million, one-year deal with $12 million guaranteed. But maybe the real winner here is still the Ravens.
The franchise won the real prize by landing Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason, retaining Lamar Jackson at quarterback and building one of the NFL's best-receiving groups.
Fansided says Ravens fans should be "ecstatic" that Hopkins isn't in a Baltimore jersey, and there's a method to this madness.
"Beckham has posted a career average of 13.9 Y/R and 8.4 Y/Tgt. Hopkins trails him on both fronts with averages of 13.1 and 8.2 respectively. Beckham averages a touchdown every 15.7 targets to Hopkins' 18.5. You be the judge," Fansided notes.
And, boy, stats are really tough to argue with. Beckham has a Rookie of the Year trophy, a Super Bowl ring on his left hand and every kid on the playground screams "Odell!" when making a one-handed catch... no one is screaming "Hopkins."
Likely making $15 million with his incentives, Hopkins is getting a huge payday, and the Ravens just coughed up the same amount for Beckham. Not only did the Ravens get a better player, they got one for the same cost.
What's more, Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor, Devin Duvernay, Laquon Treadwell and Rashod all combine to make around $12 million.
"Call me crazy, but I'd rather bank such a loaded and diversified attack than just bet everything on a single man coming off a part-time season spent in the desert... and back-to-back years in which he hasn't topped 10 games played," Fansided concluded.
It's hard to knock the Ravens for not signing Hopkins after all. This team is loaded, and the cupboard is plenty full.
