'He Wanted The Fade!' Baltimore Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey Details London Brawl Between OBJ And Jeffery Simmons
Odell Beckham Jr. went looking for smoke in defense of his teammate Zay Flowers with Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and found it when he got shoved to the turf.
After the final whistle blew, the shoe was on the other foot, and Simmons went looking for OBJ and found him, which culminated in a fight that had to be broken up. Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey and Jack Settleman detailed the postgame fight and what led to the two players throwing down on their podcast, The Punch Line Podcast.
"I turn around and Odell and Jeffery are fighting," Humphrey said. "I'm pretty sure Odell was grabbing his face mask, they had to get separated and everything...He wanted the fade from getting that [personal foul]. He wanted the fade from that."
The sequence of events began late in the second quarter, when Simmons went low for a tackle on Flowers after he was already stood up by multiple Titans defenders. The tackle drew the ire of OBJ, and he went to confront Simmons over what he deemed a dirty hit.
OBJ got in Simmons' face, then Simmons pushed him to the ground, which drew a personal foul penalty and moved Baltimore to the Titans' 13-yard line.
Two plays later, Lamar Jackson completed a 10-yard pass to Flowers for a touchdown, the first of his career.
After Baltimore's 24-16 win over Tennessee, Humphrey was doing a jersey swap with a media member of all people when he saw Simmons with his helmet still on. Humphrey went up to Simmons thinking he may have been waiting for him, and quickly found out that wasn't the case.
After Humprey turned his back, he heard one of his teammates calling for Rodney Allen, the Ravens' director of security.
"Our guy starts going 'Rodney, Rodney,'" Humphrey said. "I'm like anytime you start yelling security like 'Rodney, Rodney,' like freaking out."
Humphrey quickly realized why his teammate was yelling for Allen, as he saw OBJ and Simmons come to blows over the low hit and a skrimish that drew a flag on the Titans defensive tackle in the first half.
"I don't know how this has not hit the media," Humphrey said.
The Ravens (4-2) will return home to M&T Bank Stadium after their trip across the pond to face the Detroit Lions (5-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
