The Streak Lives! Ravens Clip Eagles 20-19 in Preseason Opener
Twenty-four and there's so much more. Behind a touchdown pass each for backup quarterbacks Josh Johnson and Tyler Huntley, the Baltimore Ravens extended their preseason winning streak to 24 consecutive games, the latest being a 20-19 triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium.
With starters mostly sitting, the depth stars of Baltimore (1-0) came to play. Johnson and Huntley combined to complete 16-of-23 passes for 133 yards and the aforementioned two scores. Granted the starting duties, Johnson found Baltimore regular Devin Duvernay for the first score from seven yards out while Tylan Wallace had the other from 10 away off the arm of Huntley. The latter gave Baltimore its permanent lead.
Others who made an impression for the Ravens included Justice Hill, whose 37-yard tally not only helped set up the Duvernay score but allowed him to stand out in the team battle for reserver rushers on the roster. In that same battle, undrafted rookie Keaton Mitchell had a long touchdown run erased by a penalty.
On defense, Daryl Worley had two sacks and a tackle for a loss while Malik Harrison and Malik Hamm each had a sack each. Baltimore's defense allowed Philadelphia (0-1) into opposing territory on each of its first five possession but allowed just a single touchdown.
In terms of Baltimore regulars, Justin Tucker appeared to already be in mid-season form, as one of his two field goals came from 60 yards out and closed out the first half.
Philadelphia, the defending NFC champions, likewise rested most of its starters on Saturday. Trey Sermon scored the offense's only touchdown while corner Eli Ricks took back an Anthony Brown interception 31 yards.
The Ravens return to action on Aug. 21 when they engage in a DMV civil war against the Washington Commanders at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
