Patrick Mahomes & Josh Allen to Blame for Lamar Jackson 'B.S' Ravens Contract Conflict?
Lamar Jackson's contract negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens look like they will continue well after the non-exclusive franchise tag is signed.
The desire of Jackson to land a fully guaranteed contract has meant the two parties are far off from reaching an agreement and has even seen a number of the quarterback-needy teams in free agency state their disinterest in pursuing him.
So where does the blame lie in these so far failing negotiations?
Well, former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman has placed the blame on several quarterbacks, none of which are named Deshaun Watson, who, after being traded to the Cleveland Browns, signed a historic fully-guaranteed deal last offseason, setting the precedence for what Jackson desires.
"When Kirk Cousins got his guaranteed deal, I thought quarterbacks from then on were gonna be like 'if it ain't guaranteed, I ain't taking it," Sherman said. "Then [Patrick] Mahomes took that BS deal, 10 years and wanted it to like half a [billion]...when he didn't set it, then Josh Allen didn't set it."
Essentially, Sherman is saying since Mahomes and Allen all fell short of pursuing a fully guaranteed contract, that has allowed teams to deny Jackson the opportunity of getting a contract similar to Watson's.
As ex-Detroit Lions wideout Calvin Johnson would add on Sherman's podcast, the NFL is trying to buck the trend of guaranteed deals.
"They don't want to allow certain things to happen because it sets a trend going forward," Johnson said.
This holdout against more contracts like Watson's has put the NFL teams in a standoff against Jackson in an attempt to reset the quarterback market.
Is that "collusion''? Maybe not.
Is that "b.s.''? Richard Sherman says it is so.
