Ravens QB Lamar Jackson to Sit Out 2023 Season?

A recent scenario has been floated that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson could just sit out of the 2023 season altogether if he is franchise tagged.
In this story:

The Lamar Jackson contract extension situation has yet to be resolved; the latest reports state that the Baltimore Ravens are $100 million short of Jackson's desired salary, making it sound increasingly likely the pairing are heading towards the franchise tag.

With the tag potentially looming, scenarios about what will happen afterward are being discussed. Could Jackson be traded? Or could he sit out of the 2023 season altogether?

A sit-out is certainly not off the table, as former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Von Bell did it during the 2018 season after the two could not agree to a contract extension.

As we all know, Bell ended up leaving the Steelers the following offseason after watching the season from the comfort of his home.

But as is pointed out by Pro Football Talk, who initially floated the idea, sitting home could cost Jackson a substantial amount of money. PFT suggests that sitting out could see the quarterback lose all of the $40 million he'd get from an exclusive franchise tag.

Begging the question, is it worth it for the former Heisman-winning quarterback?

The most likely scenario seems that in the event of an exclusive tag, one in which he could not seek deals from other teams, Jackson could request a trade.

All options are on the table for Jackson and the Ravens, as the franchise window is open until March 7th.
