Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman Finally 'Confident in His Health'
Baltimore Ravens receiver Rashod Bateman looks to have finally turned a corner. After dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of most of training camp, he looks like he is starting to get back to his explosive best.
Against the Arizona Cardinals, in a 31-24 win, Bateman, who had two catches for 34 yards, came up big with an early catch to keep the Ravens' drive alive and then a jet sweep that showcased his speed.
For Ravens coach John Harbaugh, Bateman's play against the Cardinals was down to his confidence in his physical health.
"It’s not really confidence in [Rashod Bateman's] ability,” Harbaugh said. "He's always been very confident. It's confidence in his health. [It's] the fact that he's been able to stack practices now and get a feel in the offense and catch balls and run routes and compete for balls.
"The more you practice, the better you get, and the better feel you get for the game, all of those different things. I would say it's just starting to kind of come together for him that way. I'm hoping. I think the second half of the season for Rashod is going to be big [and] is going to be very successful."
With the Ravens offense starting to come together under new coordinator Todd Monken, Bateman hasn't been a big factor thus far - but he has shown signs.
Lamar Jackson has a loaded offense with weapons everywhere you look. Rookie Zay Flowers and tight end Mark Andrews have been the major players utilized by Jackson, but with Bateman starting to stack good performances together, maybe he can be the wildcard for the Ravens' offense.
Baltimore is still chasing consistency in its play offensively, and with Bateman, who is now in his third NFL season, starting to produce in big moments, the Ravens offense, which many labeled in preseason as one of the most explosive units in the league, might just be about to take off.
We saw it against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions, and with Bateman's "confidence" in his health, the battle is already won. Now, he just has to produce on the field, and he is already showing how dangerous he can be in Monken's scheme.
