Update: Cause of Ray Lewis' Son's Death Revealed

The Baltimore Ravens family is mourning on Thursday as Ray Lewis III, eldest son of legendary linebacker Ray Lewis, has tragically passed away at 28, according to TMZ.

Rashaan Lewis, younger brother of Lewis III, shared the news on social media with a heartfelt message. 

"Really can't believe I'm even typing this but RIP big brother," Rashaan Lewis wrote in an Instagram story. "A true angel I pray your at peace now because IK how much you was rlly hurtin. I don't and won't ever have the words man cuz this pain right here... I love you I love you I love you.

"Your niece gone miss you but she will hear about u over and over just watch over us all big bruh be our guardian I promise I'll make you smile and proud."

Lewis III became a football star at Lake Mary High School in Florida, with 1,898 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior. He followed in his father footsteps by starting his college football career at Miami before transferring to Coastal Carolina and later Virginia Union, an HBCU that competes at the Division II level. Most recently in 2021, Lewis III played for the Wyoming Mustangs of the Champions Indoor Football league. He was also pursuing a career in music. 

"Great young man and a better teammate," Virginia Union associate head coach Diego Ryland told TMZ. "The entire Virginia Union University community is praying for the family as they deal with the loss of Ray."

UPDATE: According to TMZ Sports in a report released on Friday, Lewis III passed away due to an accidental overdose.
