Ravens Salary Cap: How NFL Increase to $224.8 Million Helps Baltimore
As football fans prepare for Super Bowl LVII between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 12, the Baltimore Ravens and 29 other teams are preparing for the offseason.
For Baltimore, it will be an offseason to evaluate players, even as coach John Harbaugh’s own review of his coaching staff continues after the departure of offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
And now, the Ravens have a clearer idea of how that offseason might work financially.
On Monday, per NFL Network, the league informed teams the salary cap would increase by more than $16 million over 2022's number to up to $224.8 million for 2023.
Per Spotrac.com, that puts the Ravens with roughly $28.8 million of cap space to work with, with quarterback Lamar Jackson currently seeking a new deal.
With a number of free agents on the roster including Jackson, it'll be decision time for general manager Eric DeCosta.
Jackson, cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Kyle Fuller, quarterback Tyler Huntley, and wideout Sammy Watkins are all entering free agency, and that’s a lot of holes.
Another consideration will be April's NFL Draft. The Ravens will pick at No. 22 with the biggest needs probably coming at cornerback, wide receiver, and defensive line, particularly on the edge.
And now, with a figure to work with, DeCosta and Co. can start working on next year's attempt at another deep playoff run.
