Former Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, but the Henry-to-Ravens process actually began last season.

A day after the signing, at Henry's introductory press conference, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta confirmed an earlier report that the team tried to trade for the running back last season.

A deal with Tennessee could not be reached before the trade deadline, but Henry said he thought he could be on the move this offseason, and he knew where he wanted to be.

“This is where I knew I wanted to be. I love the style, the physicality that they play with in all three phases. It’s my style of play as well. It was really a no-brainer, just trying to figure out the business side of things and glad we were able to get it figured out.”

Baltimore wasn't one of the teams that proposed to move the trading deadline back a week, but if that was the case, the deal might've gotten done. Tennessee was 3-4 at the time the trade deadline came, so there was still hope for a playoff appearance. But the Titans lost their next two games, virtually eliminating that opportunity.

If the trade deadline was a week or two later in the season, Tennessee may have been inclined to make the deal.

But the bottom line is, Henry is now a Raven.
