Ravens 'Hopeful' For Deals With Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins
The Baltimore Ravens have utilized the "running back by committee" philosophy the past couple of years and it's paid dividends. Last season, without the benefit of a true No. 1 back, Baltimore boasted the best rushing attack in the NFL.
Now, the team would like to run it back.
Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell are the only backs who are under contract in Charm City, and Mitchell is coming off a season-ending knee injury. Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins are set to hit free agency on March 13, but Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said the team would like to have them both back.
“We’re still talking to Gus. We’ll talk to J.K. — a couple of free agents that we had,” DeCosta said, via the team’s website. “We’re hopeful that we can get something done with those guys.”
The Ravens have been linked to several potential free agents from across the league at the running back position, maybe none more so than Tennessee Titans back Derrick Henry.
Ravens 'Definitely Have a Plan' For Uncertain RB Situation
But DeCosta and the team have to be careful about what they say about players still technically under contract with other teams. Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard and Austin Eckeler are all due to hit the open market when the new league year starts on March 13.
It's certainly possible the Ravens sign one of the bigger names in free agency, but until mid-March, they can't discuss it.
