BREAKING: Ravens Sign Browns Ex Jadeveon Clowney; What's Next?
The Baltimore Ravens are getting a big boost for their pass rush.
According to CBS insider Josina Anderson, the Ravens have agreed to terms with former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney, 30, played 12 games and started 10 last season for the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns, where he recorded 28 tackles and a pair of sacks. After being drafted by the Houston Texans and playing his first five NFL seasons in H-Town, Clowney went on to play for the Seattle Seahawks (2019) and Tennessee Titans (2020).
Earlier this offseason, ESPN compiled a list of the "best fits" for remaining free agents, and deemed Baltimore as the top choice for Clowney.
"Clowney is a straight-line power rusher who can set a hard edge versus the run game, and he would fit in coordinator Mike Macdonald's defensive scheme in Baltimore," ESPN writes. "Yes, his production declined in Cleveland last season -- he had just two sacks -- but the 30-year-old can still create disruption in both the run and pass game. Clowney can play off the edge or align inside as a stand-up defensive tackle in the Ravens' multiple fronts.
"Baltimore turned over its front seven, and I see a part-time role for Clowney there."
Despite Clowney's decline from three consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns (2016-2018), the former South Carolina product is still capable of causing havoc in the backfield alongside pass rushers Odafe Oweh, David Ojabo and Brent Urban, among others.
