'He's the Driver!' Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Will Help Develop Baltimore's Offense Next Season
The Ravens had one of the best seasons on recent record last season. The defense played at a near-historic pace for a team that has become synonymous with defense.
And while the offense often gets overshadowed by the performance of the defense, that wasn't the case last season under offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
And in Year 2 of that offense, Ravens coach John Harbaugh says quarterback Lamar Jackson will be involved in the development.
“Lamar’s a driver. He’s got to be involved in the setup of the car even more,” Harbaugh said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.
Monken developed the offense last year behind Jackson's skill set and abilities. But this year, he'll have more of a say.
“Those are things that are on his mind, and those are things that he’s going to be involved with the staff talking about,” Harbaugh said. “I’m excited about that. He wants to do it, and he’s just into it, man.”
While the regular season was a huge success for Baltimore with a 13-4 record, an AFC North title, and the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, a 17-10 loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the AFC title game hurt. Jackson didn't play his best game and the offense looked stagnant. But Harbaugh isn't deterred.
Russell Wilson Move: Could QB Sign with Ravens Rival Steelers?
“Lamar Jackson is a phenomenal success,” Harbaugh said. “He’s a phenomenal success as a football player. He is a phenomenal success as a person, as a leader, as a family man. In my opinion, there’s nobody better than this league, especially nobody better for the Baltimore Ravens and for this organization, for this city, and just from a historical perspective. I’m excited about the future.”
