Should Ravens Trade for Commanders DE Chase Young?

Potentially looking to bolster their defensive front, the Baltimore Ravens have been linked to Washington Commanders edge Chase Young.
In this story:

While there has been a consistent shift towards an offensive boom in the NFL, you can't win the Super Bowl without fielding a good defense. After all, it doesn't matter how much you can score if you can't stop the other team from scoring just as much.

Knowing that, the Baltimore Ravens have routinely boasted some of the league's most elite units on the defensive side of the ball. Now, though, they could look to be adding another young defender ahead of the season - with Touchdown Wire reporting their possible interest in trading for Washington Commanders edge Chase Young.

"There have already been murmurs about the former No. 2 overall pick being dealt. With Washington not picking up Young’s option, several teams have been rumored to be interested, including the Steelers and Ravens," Touchdown Wire writes.

"However, with Pittsburgh extending Alex Highsmith, the likelihood of them going after Young is slim to none."

Should the Ravens decide to pursue a trade of Young, which could bolster their defensive front, it certainly would not be the first time that they've made a similar move.

"We’ve seen the Ravens bring in veteran pass rushers and defensive linemen before — Elvis Dumervil, Yanick Ngakoue, Justin Houston, and Calais Campbell — and they have a need at the position," Touchdown Wire writes.

"Keep your eyes on Baltimore as a potential landing spot should Washington move him during the season."

Young has shown he can be a game-wrecking force, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 after recording 44 tackles with 10 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks while forcing four fumbles.

Since then, though, he hasn't been able to stay healthy. Appearing in just 12 games from 2021-22 for the Commanders, he tallied 31 tackles with only three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

The talent is there for Young, and it wouldn't hurt the Ravens to kick the tires on a potential trade. Unless the price is right, however, it wouldn't make sense to take on a player who has shown only one good season so far in his career.
