‘Crazy Moves!’ Lamar Jackson Impressed by Rookie Zay Flowers
The regular season is edging ever closer, and in a bid to fine-tune things outside of the preseason games, the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders held a joint practice - the first of two - to get the competitive juices flowing.
After going against his own defense for the majority of the offseason, quarterback Lamar Jackson welcomed the chance to go against a different opposition.
“It's practice, so I want to get better,” Jackson said. “It was all good, I had fun going against another team, though. It was wonderful to go against someone else other than my teammates. It was good to get out there [with] another team.”
Of course, it wouldn't be a joint practice without some of the competitiveness spilling over (which it did), but this is where teams get better, and with some players on the roster bubble, they need to make every snap count.
One player who is doing that and has done it all throughout training camp is rookie Zay Flowers.
The first-round pick out of Boston College has been tormenting his teammates in practice, and he did so to the Commanders' defense as well.
Going against Emmanuel Forbes, Flowers was nearly unguardable as his quick feet, speed, and superb route running saw him get in space frequently.
But what did Lamar think of his newest weapon's efforts against Washington?
“He showed me he can do it against anybody else, not just our team,” Jackson said. “He was making some crazy moves, great route running, great in and out of his cuts, he was catching the ball. He was looking pretty good out there.”
With another joint practice set to be held, the Ravens and Commanders will have another go at each other before facing off in their second preseason game on Monday night.
And for the Commanders, it means another dose of Flowers and Todd Monken's electric offense.
