Ravens Rival Steelers Add Yet Another QB
The Baltimore Ravens AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers have not bee acting like themselves lately.
After spending years drafting and developing their star players, general manager Omar Khan has ushered in a new era of signing star free agents. After bringing in quarterback Russell Wilson and trading for Justin Fields to back him up (we'll see about that), Khan announced on Monday that they've found their third-string signal caller in Kyle Allen.
Allen, 28, has been in the league since 2018 after going undrafted and signing with Carolina. He spent two seasons with the Panthers before signing with Washington for two seasons and moving on to Houston for 2022. He spent the 2023 season in Buffalo.
Allen started 12 games for Carolina but could not win the starting job and has played second- and third-string roles since.
There are worse-case scenarios if both Wilson and Fields go down, but the Steelers will hardly battle for a playoff spot with Allen at the helm. But that could probably be said of most NFL teams with their third-string quarterback on the field.
The Ravens and Steelers will once again match up twice next season as they do every year, but the Ravens expect much better play at quarterback than what they've dealt with the couple of years. Even with improvements on defense - including the addition of former Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen - the Steelers are expected to finish last in the North behind Baltimore, Cincinnati and Cleveland.
