'Don't Rush Scared!' Bosa Reveals Plan for 'Evolved' Lamar Jackson at 49ers

'Don't Rush Scared!' Nick Bosa Reveals Plan for 'Evolved' Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson at San Francisco 49ers on 'Monday Night Football'
In this story:

The San Francisco 49ers have a plan. And Nick Bosa isn't  concerned about sharing it ... though he is concerned - understandably - about Lamar Jackson.

"Take him out of his comfort zone,'' the Niners star pass-rusher said this week in anticipation of a "Game of the Year'' candidate scheduled for "Monday Night Football.'' "Take the space out of his run game stuff. He's their top rusher, so make him uncomfortable in the pass game. ...

"Don't rush scared.''

A matter of "comfort'' makes sense for both teams, which have made themselves quite at home in their respective conferences.

The Ravens visiting the 49ers pits arguably the two best teams in the NFL, 11-3 Baltimore of the AFC having won four in a row and seven of its last eight and the 11-3 Niners of the NFC having won six straight.

In a season where everything seems to be clicking on both sides of the ball for both teams - quarterback Lamar Jackson keying the Ravens offense (he's second in NFL MVP odds this season behind 49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy) and Bosa helping to lead his defense - something's gotta give.

Will Bosa and company use a "spy'' or a similar technique to shadow Jackson, who might go down as the NFL's best-ever running QB? They did that successfully against the Eagles' Jalen Hurts, so ...

"Don't try to mirror him like we did against some of the other mobile guys, Bosa said. "But get on him and wrapping him up so he can't break tackles."

49ers HOF QB Reveals Thoughts On Lamar Jackson

At the same time, Bosa acknowledges that Jackson - who won the NFL MVP in 2019 - has "evolved'' as a QB. Do the Niners see him on film playing more from the pocket now?

"Yeah,'' said Bosa, the league defending Defensive Player of the Year. "That's the difference. He's trying to sit in there a little more and go through his reads. (The Ravens) are not quite as run-heavy (as they used to be), but they're the No. 1 running team in the league. Obviously something we're going to have to deal with."

And it sounds like the Niners have a plan in order to do just that.
