Ravens Lamar Jackson 'More Freedom' in Todd Monken's Offense

Baltimore has a new offensive coordinator in Todd Monken and tight end Mark Andrews says the scheme gives Lamar Jackson the freedom to do what he sees fit.
In this story:

Times are changing for the Baltimore Ravens. With a new offensive coordinator in Todd Monken and Lamar Jackson being given the keys to the offense, there is a sense of optimism around the Ravens.

With Greg Roman now out as offensive coordinator and Monken and his vertical-style offense now being worked on, many have high hopes for what Baltimore can achieve this season...including tight end Mark Andrews.

But for all the good things to happen to the Ravens this offseason, which includes signing Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers, Andrews states that Jackson's freedom within Monken's offense will be hugely beneficial.

“It’s going to be great, he’s already got a good handle on everything,” Andrews said on NFL+. “He’s only going to continue to get better, more comfortable. Just having a little bit more freedom, control of the offense and having the reigns to do different things at the line, I think it’s going to be great. I’m excited about it, it’s going to be a dangerous offense, we have so many pieces and when you add #8 on that, it’s incredible.”

One of the biggest reported issues with Roman as offensive coordinator was that Jackson couldn't change plays at the line and get into something he felt more comfortable with.

Well, he can now. And just what will do for an offense that was so run heavy to now having a more vertical look with a host of weapons to utilize will make for fun viewing.

Not many are putting the Ravens into the Super Bowl conversation yet. And with the AFC loaded with talent, if Monken's offense takes off, then Baltimore will be right in the mix for a Lombardi trophy.
