Lamar Jackson As His Own Agent: A ‘Different Dynamic’ Issue in Ravens Contract Talks?

“It’s definitely a different dynamic.” - Ravens GM Eric DeCosta on Lamar Jackson acting as his own agent.
In this story:

The Baltimore Ravens, in their words, anyway, are unbending in their commitment to Lamar Jackson.

But there might be something else that has them in a knot.

Said Ravens GM Eric DeCosta of the fact that Jackson is representing himself in contract negotiations: “You see the commitment, you understand where (the player is) coming from.

“So it’s definitely a different dynamic.”

As stated on Wednesday at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the Ravens are also “committed” to finding a way to keep their franchise QB - and to keep him happy.

Coach John Harbaugh said that Jackson is "his quarterback" and that "our plans are with Lamar."

DeCosta said talks between him and Jackson are ongoing, with both parties understanding the urgency of the situation. DeCosta expressed hope that the team and Jackson can get a deal done before the March 7 tagging deadline … but at this time that seems exceedingly optimistic.

DeCosta also said the team has not yet determined whether it would use the exclusive or non-exclusive franchise tag for Jackson.

Maybe Jackson as his own agent ultimately streamlines the process. Or … maybe it creates more of a knot.

“It can be challenging but it’s doable,” DeCosta said. “And we continue to be optimistic about it.”
