Lamar Jackson Reveals ‘Tremendous’ New Ravens Change

"Running can only take you so far," the 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson says. And the Ravens have a new plan.
In this story:

The Baltimore Ravens achieved a great deal under former offensive coordinator Greg Roman. But simply put, Lamar Jackson wants to now accomplish more. … while also doing “less.”

Jackson says this new offense will allow for "less running and more throwing" with coordinator Todd Monken in charge.

"Running can only take you so far," the 2019 NFL MVP said.

The Ravens have long been utilizing a run-heavy offense for several seasons. And it’s worked. But the Ravens will be geared toward a more pass-oriented attack - that’s being worked on during OTAs - and as you can imagine, Jackson (and his receivers) are all for the change.

"I feel like with this new era of teams and offenses in the league, I feel like we need that,” Lamar said. “Coach Todd Monken, what I'm seeing in his offense so far, is looking tremendous."

The presence of new signee Odell Beckham Jr. at wide receiver will help facilitate that. So will the drafting of rookie wideout Zay Flowers. Mark Andrews is still a focus as well.

But J.K. Dobbins and the running backs will still be needed. And Jackson - who as a quarterback has always been one of the more elusive runners in the sport - said that he will still use his legs when necessary.

But for the 2023 Baltimore Ravens? Lamar is obviously excited about pulling back just a bit the amount of designed runs in the offense. … meaning less can end up being more.
