Ray Lewis Rips Ravens; Is Icon Right About 'Superman' Lamar Jackson?

“Lamar Jackson is a rock star, but the Ravens offense doesn’t fit him,” says Baltimore legend Ray Lewis. Do the Ravens agree?

Thoughts on the Baltimore Ravens offense and its productivity and creativity?

It depends on who you ask ... and if you ask retired Ravens Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis?

Well, Baltimore might not like the answer.

Or, Baltimore might sort of agree with the answer.

Lamar Jackson is a rock star, but the offense that he’s been playing in the past three or four years, with Greg Roman as offensive coordinator, doesn’t fit him,” Lewis said on “Inside the NFL.” “It fits him because he has to be Superman. He has to make five people miss.”

Roman is gone now - even as his supporters believe that he did a great job taken advantage of the dynamic Jackson as a running QB ... all of which together set records and helped Lamar being the 2019 league MVP in just his second season.

But Lewis is calling for more balance in the team's philosophy, and more talent in the huddle.

“Lamar Jackson needs a No. 1 receiver. Lamar Jackson needs help,” Lewis said. “They haven’t given Lamar Jackson the opportunity to really throw the ball downfield. Let this guy do what I think he does very well. …

"(Chiefs QB) Patrick Mahomes is surrounded around nothing but help. ... We need pieces around Lamar Jackson to help Lamar Jackson.”

Ravens management apparently agrees with some of this, as evidenced by both the dismissal of Roman and general manager Eric DeCosta joining coach John Harbaugh in saying the team will be “casting a wide net” in search of a new boss on offense ... and new ways to help Lamar Jackson.

Of course, the front office is busy with another Jackson task: Trying to sign him ... a story for another day.
