Overdose Cited By Police in Death Of Ravens Icon Ray Lewis' Son
The Baltimore Ravens family is still mourning as Ray Lewis III, eldest son of legendary linebacker Ray Lewis, recently passed away at 28. And now come details from the 911 call that make the loss all the more tragic.
"Lewis was administered Narcan after being found unresponsive in Casselberry earlier this week, according to authorities," the Orlando Sentinel is reporting. "Officers responded to a medical emergency call at 5:34 p.m. at a home on South Sunset Drive where a man, later identified as 28-year-old Ray Anthony Lewis III, was found unresponsive by his friends, Casselberry Police Captain Michael Schaefer said in a statement."
The police report notes that NARCAN - a nasal spray that can be successful in treating drug overdoses - was administered. But the effort was unsuccessful.
“One of our officers used his issued NARCAN on Lewis, but there was no change to his condition,” the police statement read.
Rashaan Lewis, younger brother of Lewis III, shared the initial news of his passing on social media with a heartfelt message.
"Really can't believe I'm even typing this but RIP big brother," Rashaan Lewis wrote in an Instagram story. "A true angel I pray your at peace now because IK how much you was rlly hurtin. I don't and won't ever have the words man cuz this pain right here... I love you I love you I love you.''
Lewis III became a football star at Lake Mary High School in Florida, with 1,898 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior. He followed in his father footsteps by starting his college football career at Miami before transferring to Coastal Carolina and later Virginia Union, an HBCU that competes at the Division II level. Most recently in 2021, Lewis III played for the Wyoming Mustangs of the Champions Indoor Football league. He was also pursuing a career in music.
"Great young man and a better teammate," Virginia Union associate head coach Diego Ryland told TMZ. "The entire Virginia Union University community is praying for the family as they deal with the loss of Ray."
